Each year on August 15, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorating the day when the Blessed Virgin Mary was taken up to Heaven, body and soul. As the preeminent Marian Shrine of the United States, we honor the Blessed Mother every single day of the year, but on this holyday dedicated to Our Lady, we begin nine days of prayer during which time we entrust all of our needs to the Blessed Mother's tender embrace.

We invite you to enroll those you love and care about in a Novena of Masses at the National Shrine in commemoration of the Assumption beginning on August 14. It is our privilege to hold your intentions in our prayers as we observe this Marian Solemnity.
